Provision for 8 months -2 year olds
Our Acorn group is our youngest group of children, ranging from 8 months to 2 years. We provide a safe and happy place where our babies and toddlers to learn through play. Acorn’s outdoor environment
Our Acorn children have their own outdoor space, the Nurture Garden. This space has recently developed specifically to meet the needs of our youngest children. In the space children are encouraged to explore freely in a variety of ways. Whether it be dig in the mud pit, climb on equipment, play in the mud kitchen, and den or explore our herb beds. Our children are encouraged to use their senses, build confidence and independence all within the safety of this dedicated space.
As well as having their own space our Acorn children go on frequent nature walks in the public Orchard, where they explore the natural environment and all that it has to offer. The play park and slide are also particular favorites with our Acorn children. Here they build on their physical skills by enjoying the large play equipment.

Acorn’s indoor environment
Our acorn children have their own dedicated indoor space. This space is planned to meet the key prime areas of development, social and emotional development, physical development and communication and language development. Babies and Children are encouraged to explore and investigate. We have a wide variety of toys and these are carefully selected to meet individual children’s needs and interests.
During our indoor sessions we have time and space for ‘heuristic play’ where children explore and develop different ways to be creative and expressive in their handling of a variety of objects. It is an effective way of encouraging children to explore artifacts from our culture and to develop their thinking further. This supports personal, social and emotional development by providing the very youngest children with a play experience in which they can make choices and play autonomously, delighting in the exploration of very carefully chosen objects with all their senses and responding with excitement.
