Our Curriculum Intent

At the Orchard Preschool we have developed an ambitious, broad, and balanced Early Years Curriculum. Ensuring all children have the best possible start in life, enabling them to reach their full potential to become strong and motivated learners for life.

Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to learn, explore and discover.
This play based curriculum supports the delivery of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. It values children as unique, strong, capable, and resilient individuals and recognises that play is fundamental for children’s learning and development.

Our four curriculum goals are to create:

Strong and Confident Communicators

We value the key communication skills for lifelong learning and future success and acknowledge that it is our goal to enable all children to reach their full potential. Communication is a unique skill and looks different for different children. We support children’s ability to listen, understand and communicate as they navigate their way.

Inquisitive and Ambitious Thinkers

We foster children’s individual styles of learning. Children are actively encouraged to pursue their own interests, giving us a vehicle for the children to develop deeper thinking skills and to establish a greater understanding of their world. We value the children’s own ideas and creative energy, encouraging them to challenge themselves and ‘have a go’. With a focus on our natural world and the environment, we develop awareness of our diversities, equalities, and our British values.

Healthy, Independent Explorer

We help to establish healthy and active practices, working in partnership with families. Our goal is to encourage children to make positive choices which will influence lifelong health and wellbeing.

Resilient and Motivated Individual

A positive sense of self and appreciation of our individuality is of paramount priority.  This supports growth of confidence and underpins strong relationships with each other, our wider Orchard Pre-School family and our community.

Learning is a life-long journey, and we strive to foster this concept by encouraging learners of all ages to ‘keep going’, even when things can be difficult, celebrating our achievements along the way.
