Weekly Baby and Toddler Group

Almost 40 years ago, Orchard Playgroup was launched by a group of parents from the village who wanted to support each other and their children through the early years. Even when Orchard officially became a Preschool, a weekly Parent led Playgroup always took place.
Whilst today you will find a Early Years Practitioner leading the sessions, the ethos remains largely the same. Orchard Playgroup is and will always remain a place where local parents can bring their children for free flow and often messy play, a healthy snack and the chance to make new friends. And, they’ll always be a friendly face, a cup of tea and a slice of cake to welcome you too (If the cake Rota gets going again).
A typical Playgroup session…
10:00 Playgroup opens. The play space is set up for the children with a variety of activities and role play activities for them to enjoy
10:45 Snack time. We encourage the children (or babes in arms) to sit together for a healthy snack and a cup of milk/water. Snack consists of Crackers, Toast or Rice Cakes and a pile of fresh fruit. Cake a tea is available for the parent/carers.
11:15 An age appropriate seasonal craft activity will be organised on a weekly basis given the children the chance to express their creativity and work on their fine motor skills.
11:45 Group time. Parents are encouraged to bring their children into a circle for a story and some nursery rhymes.
12:00 Home Time.
Playgroup outdoor environment
When the weather allows, we will take our Playgroup outside to enjoy Lustleigh’s community orchard. The sessions will still start inside the village hall but we may take our snack and creative activity outside so that the children also get the chance to explore the natural environment.
Playgroup indoor environment
Our Playgroup sessions meet in the Lustleigh Village Hall Meeting Room. This comfortable, cosy space is packed with play equipment perfect for this age group. The room opens directly out into the Orchard with easy access to the Nurture Garden to the rear of the hall.
